Statistics Indonesia Joins House Commission X in Regional Working Visits

December 23, 2024 | Other Activities

In December 2024, Indonesia’s House of Representatives Commission X conducted a recess working visit to East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Maluku, and Papua, gathering input from local stakeholders to help shape national policies. Statistics Indonesia (BPS) played an active role, supporting the delegation as part of its ongoing collaboration with the commission.

In NTT, the visit on December 6 was led by M.Y. Esti Wijayanti of the PDI-Perjuangan party, joined by BPS Chief Inspector Dadang Herdiwan and Head of BPS NTT Province Office Matamira B. Kale. The delegation conducted site visits, met with the Acting Governor of NTT, and held discussions with BPS NTT officials to gain deeper insights into the agency’s regional operations.

During the visit, Wijayanti highlighted the vital importance of accurate data in planning and policymaking for both national and regional development. She expressed optimism that BPS, as a newly established partner of Commission X, would enhance its role in delivering reliable, high-quality data to support development efforts in NTT. Chief Inspector Herdiwan also urged Commission X to back the ongoing revision of Indonesia’s 1997 Statistics Law, which is currently under deliberation in the legislature.

The team moved to Maluku on December 7, where they were welcomed by Ateng Hartono, BPS Deputy Chief Statistician for Social Statistics, and Maritje Pattiwaellapia, Head of BPS Maluku Province. The discussions, held at the BPS Maluku office, included a presentation by Hartono titled “Building Indonesia with Meaningful and Impactful Statistical Data.” The visit was led by Commission X Deputy Chair Lalu Hardian Irfani.

Meanwhile, in Papua the delegation met on December 9 at the Papua Governor’s Office, led by Commission X Chair Hetifah Sjaifudian. BPS representatives included M. Habibullah, Deputy Chief Statistician for Production Statistics, Adriana Helena Carolina, Head of BPS Papua Province Office, and Sugiyanto, Head of BPS Jayapura City.

The visits underscored the critical role of collaboration between regional authorities and Statistics Indonesia in strengthening the nation’s statistical capacity to guide development policies effectively.
