Statistics Indonesoa (BPS) and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) have made their debut appearance before Commission X of the House of Representatives (DPR RI). The hearing, held on 12 November at the Nusantara I Building in Jakarta, marked a shift in partnerships, with BPS moving from Commission XI and BRIN from Commission VII to their new roles under Commission X.

Chaired by Hetifah Sjaifudian, the meeting aimed to introduce the leadership of both institutions and provide an overview of their strategic directions for 2024–2029. “This session is about getting to know the teams at BRIN and BPS and understanding their policy priorities for the coming years,” Hetifah explained.

Acting Chief Statistician Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti led the BPS delegation, delivering a comprehensive presentation on the agency's role and programmes. She highlighted BPS's commitment to collaboration, stating: “BPS stands ready to coordinate and work closely with Commission X.” Amalia also underscored plans to strengthen statistical regulations, including pushing for the amendment of Indonesia's 1997 Statistics Law to modernise BPS operations.

Commission X members voiced strong engagement during the session. Verrel Bramasta of the PAN faction praised the presentations, while Denny Cagur of the PDI-P faction focused on agricultural issues raised in the 2023 Agricultural Census, particularly regarding fertiliser availability.

The hearing concluded with Commission X pledging support for BPS’s plans to develop a robust and efficient National Statistical System. Members also urged the fast-tracking of amendments to Law No. 16 of 1997, advocating for its inclusion in the 2025 Priority National Legislation Programme.
