The annual session of the United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC), which enters its fifty-fifth session this year, was held at UN Headquarters in New York in the last week of February. On a special occasion at this year's Friday Seminar, Deputy Chief Statistician of  Statistical Information and Methodology, Imam Machdi along with the heads of NSOs from Lithuania, Kenya, and Colombia delivered materials in a session discussing new strategies in the provision of data and statistics within the framework of the National Statistics System. At the seminar, Imam spoke about Indonesian policies and access to data governance and statistics in Indonesia.

During the main UNSC meetings, the BPS delegation led by Acting Chief Statistician of BPS-Statistics Indonesia, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti delivered several interventions through the oral statements. In the discussion on The Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics/FPOS, Indonesia urged the Assembly to consider the dynamics faced by the statistical offices of countries in the world today so that the FPOS that has become a pillar in producing quality official national statistics remains relevant. In the discussion on Data Science, Indonesia invited countries in the Asia and Pacific to use the UN Regional Hub in Indonesia to optimize the use of big data and data science to produce official statistics.

Between the sessions,  the Acting Chief Statistician of BPS-Statistics Indonesia also held bilateral meetings with  Norwegia, Australia, and Panama's NSOs, as well as several international and UN agencies in the field of statistics. This strengthens BPS's integrity in the world statistical community and becomes an important part of Indonesian diplomacy at the global level.
