BPS Promotes PPI and WPI with 2010 Base Year

To respond the demands of data variation without compromising quality and timeliness, the BPS releases the Producer Price Index (PPI) and the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) with 2010 base year.

The 2010 base year has been applied in PPI since October 2013 and WPI since November 2013. The PPI and WPI with 2010 base year promotional event was held in Grand Mercure Hotel Jakarta on 19 March 2014, attended by various representatives fromministries and agencies, academicians, organizations, and private enterprises.

The change in base year resulted in difference in WPI data due to increase in commodities in the data with the new base year. The Director of Prices Statistics Yunita Rusanti explained about the coverage, weighting, and calculation of PPI and WPI. The discussion session was led by the Deputy Chief Statistician for Disrtibution and Services Statistics, Sasmito Hadi Wibowo.

The PPI is expected to cover services sector and be specified at provincial level in the future. It is planned to be reported online in order to mitigate time lag. The price data which often fluctuates will be collected more frequently (weekly or fortnightly)
