Abstract

EXPORTS
  • The value of Indonesia’s exports in September 2022 reached US$24.80 billion, decreased 10.99 percent compared to exports in August 2022 but increased 20.28 percent compared to September 2021.
  • Non-oil and gas exports in September 2022 reached US$23.48 billion, decreased 10.31 percent compared to non-oil and gas exports in August 2022 but increased 19.26 percent compared to September 2021.
  • Cumulatively, Indonesia’s exports from January to September 2022 reached US$219.35 billion, increased 33.49 percent over the same period in 2021. Likewise, non-oil and gas exports reached US$207.19 billion or increased 33.21 percent.
  • The highest decrease of non-oil and gas exports in September 2022 was animal or vegetable fats and oils commodity, in amount of US$1,425.4 million or decreased 31.91 percent from August 2022. The highest increase was ores, slag, and ash commodity, in amount of US$238.1 million or increased 29.07 percent.
  • By industry classification, exports of manufacturing products during period January–September 2022 increased by 22.23 percent; exports of agriculture, forestry and fisheries increased by 15.37 percent; and exports of mining and others increased by 91.98 percent compared to the same period in 2021.
  • The main country destinations of non-oil and gas exports in September 2022 were China at US$6.16 billion, United States at US$2.11 billion, and Japan at US$2.10 billion, with the contribution of the three reached 44.17 percent. Meanwhile, exports to ASEAN and the European Union (27 countries) amounted to US$4.45 billion and US$1.81 billion, respectively.
  • According to the province of origin, Indonesia’s largest exports in January–September 2022 came from Jawa Barat with a value of US$29.37 billion (13.39 percent), followed by Kalimantan Timur at US$26.76 billion (12.20 percent), and Jawa Timur at US$18.95 billion (8.64 percent).

IMPORTS
  • Imports of Indonesia in September 2022 were worth US$19.81 billion, decreased by 10.58 percent compared with August 2022, yet rose by 22.01 percent compared with September 2021.
  • Imports of oil and gas in September 2022 were worth US$3.43 billion, fell by 7.44 percent compared with August 2022, yet increased by 83.53 percent compared with September 2021.
  • Imports of non-oil and gas in September 2022 were worth US$16.38 billion, decreased by 11.21 percent compared with August 2022, yet grew by 14.02 percent compared with September 2021.
  • The most significant decrease in imports of non-oil and gas in September 2022 was iron and steel, which fell by US$342.2 million (25.57 percent). On the other hand, precious metals and jewellery/precious stones experienced the highest fall with US$182.5 million (50.37 percent) increase.
  • The largest trading partner countries of non-oil and gas imports in January–September 2022 were China US$50.29 billion (33.88 percent), Japan US$12.65 billion (8.52 percent), and Thailand US$8.52 billion (5.74percent). Imports of non-oil and gas from ASEAN and EU countries were US$25.37 billion (17.09 percent) and US$8.40 billion (5.66 percent), respectively.
  • Compared with the same period last year, the total of Indonesia imports for all broad economics categories in January–September 2022 experienced increases, which consisted of US$496.3 million (3.52 percent) of consumption goods, US$33,340.7 million (31.72 percent) of intermediate goods, and US$6,433.1 million (32.17 percent) of capital goods.
  • Indonesia’s balance of trade in September 2022 experienced a surplus of US$4.99 billion, which mainly affected by a US$7.09 billion surplus in non-oil and gas offset by a deficit of US$2.10 billion in oil and gas.
