Jakarta, January 20 – A groundbreaking study titled The Development of Civil Registration in Indonesia 2019–2023 offers critical insights to enhance inclusivity and strengthen cross-sector collaboration in addressing challenges in population registration. Acting Chief Statistician of BPS, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, unveiled the findings during an event themed Towards Inclusivity in Civil Registration held in the capital.
“This study provides a valuable reference for improving inclusivity, fostering synergy across sectors, and tackling the persistent challenges of population registration in Indonesia,” Amalia remarked.
The initiative reflects a coordinated effort involving the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Health, and the University of Indonesia, with support from international partners such as UNESCAP, Vital Strategies, UNFPA, and WHO. Amalia highlighted the pivotal role of the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) system in ensuring accurate data and establishing official legal identities for all citizens.
The CRVS initiative is in line with the goals set by Presidential Regulations No. 62 of 2019 and No. 109 of 2024, which target 100% coverage of birth and death registrations by 2024. The publication also reaffirms Indonesia’s commitment to the Asia-Pacific region’s call to action, aptly titled “Get Everyone in the Picture.”
The event featured expert panelists from BPS, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas), the Ministry of Health, the Demographic Institute of the University of Indonesia, and global organizations such as UNESCAP and Vital Strategies.
As a gesture of appreciation, printed copies of the publication and tokens of recognition were presented to panelists representing the various ministries, agencies, and international partners involved in the initiative.
