"The Economic Census serves as the foundation for BPS's survey sampling frame and plays a critical role in supporting Indonesia's economic transformation as we move towards the Golden Indonesia Vision 2045," said M. Habibullah, Deputy Chief Statistician of Production Statistics at BPS, during his opening remarks at the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on the Economic Census 2026 Design, held with representatives from various ministries and institutions in Jakarta on August 29.
Sarpono, Director of Distribution Statistics at BPS, highlighted that the Economic Census has been conducted since 1986, where the 2026 census will mark the fifth edition of the data collection. Collaboration with relevant ministries and agencies is essential for accurately capturing Indonesia's economic landscape through this decennial census. Economic Census 2026 will cover all economic activities, excluding the agriculture and forestry sectors, with the aim of providing detailed information on the country's economic structure, business characteristics, and digital economy.
Following the opening session, a panel discussion was held, bringing together the representatives from ministries and agencies to discuss data availability, unmet data needs, and the potential data contributions from various sectors. Panelists included Siti Romayah (Ministry of Investment/BKPM), Andriansyah (Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs), Hadi Pratiwi (Directorate General of Taxes), Deepa Wright (Australian Bureau of Statistics), Sarpono, and Windhiarso Ponco Adi (BPS).
