NATIONAL STATISTICS DAY 2024: QUALITY STATISTICS FOR A GOLDEN INDONESIA

September 27, 2024 | Other Activities

On September 26 each year, Indonesia commemorates National Statistics Day (HSN). For this year’s observance, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) has adopted the theme “Quality Statistics for a Golden Indonesia.”

This theme highlights the pivotal importance of statistical data in supporting the realization of Indonesia's Golden Vision 2045, which aspires to position Indonesia as a "Sovereign, Advanced, and Sustainable Archipelagic State." To sustain the momentum of the nation’s development transformation, accurate and reliable data serves as the cornerstone for sound policy-making.

The Role of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) in Enhancing Sectoral Data

The statistical data underpinning national development is not exclusively generated by Statistics Indonesia (BPS). Other ministries and government agencies also have the responsibility to produce sectoral data that caters to their specific policy planning needs. Sectoral statistics are designed to meet the requirements of government institutions in executing their administrative and developmental mandates. As stipulated in Article 12 of Law No. 16 of 1997 on Statistics, government agencies are tasked with producing sectoral statistics within the scope of their duties and functions, either independently or in collaboration with BPS.

BPS, as the national statistical authority, plays a key role in bolstering sectoral statistics by offering guidance to ministries and agencies, an initiative that began in early 2024. This effort aligns with BPS’s role as outlined in Presidential Regulation No. 39 of 2019 on One Data Indonesia, which designates BPS as the coordinator for statistical data.

The development of sectoral statistics also follows the Evaluation of Sectoral Statistical Management (the EPSS), which BPS conducts across ministries and institutions. The EPSS provides a framework for assessing the performance of statistical operations at both central and regional levels of government.

“In realizing the vision of a Golden Indonesia, we must rely on high-quality statistics and precise sectoral data to support policy-making and planning. Let us commit to improving statistical quality across all sectors for the progress and welfare of the nation. Happy National Statistics Day 2024,” said Acting Chief Statistician Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti.

High-quality statistical data, including sectoral statistics, will ensure that policy decisions are data-driven. This, in turn, will lead to more accurate and well-targeted development efforts, paving the way towards the achievement of Indonesia's Golden Vision 2045.
