"In addition to providing social assistance, the government needs to consider geospatial-based policies in intervening in poverty," said Head of BPS, Margo Yuwono during an audience with the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, Wednesday (26/1). Margo explained the summary of the results of the social assistance program effectiveness survey (SEPBS) conducted by BPS in December 2021.
Margo said that it was not enough to solve extreme poverty with various social assistance interventions, because the causes could be systemic, one of which was infrastructure problems. Access to village offices, health facilities, and places of business is also an important factor in causing extreme poverty.
Meanwhile, Airlangga highlighted the accuracy and speed of distributing social assistance, as well as future policy steps. This is intended to lift the extreme poor out of poverty. "The government really hopes that BPS can take a more precise picture, so that the government can fine-tune the extreme poverty policy program," he concluded.
