Abstract

  • The year-on-year (y-on-y) inflation rate in May 2024 was 2.84 percent, with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 106.37. The highest inflation by province was in Papua Tengah Province at 5.39 percent with a CPI of 110.25, while the lowest was in Kepulauan Bangka Belitung Province and Sulawesi Barat Province at 1.25 percent each, with CPI of 104.27 and 105.46, respectively. The highest inflation by regency/city was in Nabire Regency at 7.58 percent with a CPI of 112.25, while the lowest was in Majene Regency at 0.63 percent with a CPI of 105.87. Bangka Barat Regency recorded a y-on-y deflation of 0.09 percent with a CPI of 102.47.
  • Inflation occurred as the prices went up, as indicated by the increase in most expenditure groups indices, namely: Food, Beverages, and Tobacco Group of 6.18 percent; Clothing and Footwear Group of 1.10 percent; Housing, Water, Electricity, and Household Fuel Group of 0.54 percent; Furnishings, Household Equipment, and Routine Household Maintenance Group of 0.85 percent; Health Group of 2.06 percent; Transport Group of 1.34 percent; Recreation, Sport, and Culture Group of 1.60 percent; Education Group of 1.71 percent; Food and Beverage Serving Services/Restaurant Group of 2.51 percent; and Personal Care and Other Services Group of 4.99 percent. Meanwhile, Information, Communication, and Financial Services Group recorded a deflation of 0.16 percent.
  • The month-to-month (m-to-m) deflation rate in May 2024 was 0.03 percent, and the year-to-date (y-to-d) inflation in May 2024 was 1.16 percent.
  • For the Core Component, the y-on-y inflation rate in May 2024 was 1.93 percent, the m-to-m inflation rate was 0.17 percent, and the y-to-d inflation rate was 1.04 percent.
