Abstract

EXPORT
  • The value of Indonesia’s exports in August 2022 reached US$27.91 billion, increased 9.17 percent compared to exports in July 2022 and rose 30.15 percent compared to August 2021.
  • Non-oil and gas exports in August 2022 reached US$26.19 billion, increased 8.24 percent compared to non-oil and gas exports in July 2022 and rose 28.39 percent compared to August 2021.
  • Cumulatively, Indonesia’s exports from January to August 2022 reached US$194.60 billion, increased 35.42 percent over the same period in 2021. Likewise, non-oil and gas exports reached US$183.73 billion or increased 35.24 percent.
  • The highest increase of non-oil and gas exports in August 2022 was animal or vegetable fats and oils commodity, in amount of US$904.7 million or increased 25.40 percent from July 2022. The highest decrease was mineral fuels commodity, in amount of US$368.5 million or decreased 6.68 percent.
  • By industry classification, exports of manufacturing products during period January–August 2022 increased by 24.03 percent; exports of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries increased by 17.14 percent; and exports of mining and others increased by 97.40 percent compared to the same period in 2021.
  • The main country destinations of non-oil and gas exports in August 2022 were China at US$6.16 billion, United States at US$2.59 billion, and India at US$2.47 billion, with the contribution of the three reached 42.84 percent. Meanwhile, exports to ASEAN and the European Union (27 countries) amounted to US$4.77 billion and US$2.30 billion, respectively.
  • According to the province of origin, Indonesia’s largest exports in January–August 2022 came from Jawa Barat with a value of US$26.02 billion (13.37 percent), followed by Kalimantan Timur at US$23.41 billion (12.03 percent) and Jawa Timur at US$16.96 billion (8.71 percent).

IMPORT
  • Imports of Indonesia in August 2022 were worth US$22.15 billion, increased by 3.77 percent compared with July 2022, or rose by 32.81 percent compared with August 2021.
  • Imports of oil and gas in August 2022 were worth US$3.70 billion, fell by 16.92 percent compared with July 2022, yet increased by 80.63 percent compared with August 2021.
  • Imports of non-oil and gas in August 2022 were worth US$18.45 billion, increased by 9.23 percent compared with July 2022 or grew by 26.11 percent compared with August 2021.
  • The most significant increase in imports of non-oil and gas in August 2022 was machinery/mechanical appliances and parts thereof, which grew by US$357.2 million (13.63 percent). On the other hand, precious metals and jewellery/precious stones experienced the highest fall with a US$141.1 million (28.02 percent) decrease.
  • The largest trading partner countries of non-oil and gas imports in January–August 2022 were China US$44.59 billion (33.77 percent), Japan US$11.35 billion (8.60 percent), and Thailand US$7.68 billion (5.82 percent). Imports of non-oil and gas from ASEAN and EU countries were US$22.60 billion (17.12 percent) and US$7.35 billion (5.56 percent), respectively.
  • Compared with the same period last year, Indonesia total imports for all broad economics categories in January–August 2022 experienced increases, which consisted of US$696.1 million (5.65 percent) of consumption goods, US$30,533.0 million (32.82 percent) of intermediate goods, and US$5,467.0 million (30.97 percent) of capital goods.
  • Indonesia’s balance of trade in August 2022 experienced a surplus of US$5.76 billion, which mainly affected by a surplus of non-oil and gas of US$7.74 billion. On the other hand, there was a deficit of US$1.98 billion in oil and gas.
