Abstract

A. EXPORTS
  • The value of Indonesia’s exports in May 2022 reached US$21.51 billion, decreased 21.29 percent compared to exports in April 2022 but increased 27.00 percent compared to May 2021.
  • Non-oil and gas exports in May 2022 reached US$20.01 billion, decreased 22.71 percent compared to non-oil and gas exports in April 2022 but increased 25.34 percent compared to May 2021.
  • Cumulatively, Indonesia’s exports from January to May 2022 reached US$114.97 billion, increased 36.34 percent over the same period in 2021. Likewise, non-oil and gas exports reached US$108.74 billion or increased 36.36 percent.
  • The highest decrease of non-oil and gas exports in May 2022 was animal or vegetable fats and oils commodity, in amount of US$2,149.5 million or decreased 71.79 percent from April 2022. The highest increase was nickel and articles thereof, in amount of US$233.7 million or increased 65.39 percent.
  • By industry classification, exports of manufacturing products during period January–May 2022 increased by 25.00 percent; exports of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries increased by 13.34 percent; and exports of mining and others increased by 108.14 percent compared to the same period in 2021.
  • The main country destinations of non-oil and gas exports in May 2022 were China at US$4.59 billion, India at US$2.26 billion, and United States at US$2.05 billion, with the contribution of the three reached 44.49 percent. Meanwhile, exports to ASEAN and the European Union (27 countries) amounted to US$4.07 billion and US$1.46 billion, respectively.
  • According to the province of origin, Indonesia’s largest exports in January–May 2022 came from Jawa Barat with a value of US$15.71 billion (13.67 percent), followed by Kalimantan Timur at US$12.37 billion (10.76 percent) and Jawa Timur at US$10.88 billion (9.46 percent).
B. IMPORTS
  • Imports of Indonesia in May 2022 were worth US$18.61 billion, fell by 5.81 percent compared with April 2022, or rose by 30.74 percent compared with May 2021.
  • Imports of oil and gas in May 2022 were worth US$3.35 billion, fell by 12.07 percent compared with April 2022, or inclined by 62.64 percent compared with May 2021.
  • Imports of non-oil and gas in May 2022 were worth US$15.26 billion, decreased by 4.31 percent compared with April 2022, or grew by 25.33 percent compared with May 2021.
  • The most significant decrease in imports of non-oil and gas in May 2022 was electrical machinery/equipments and parts thereof, which fell by US$254.9 million (11.16 percent). On the other hand, sugars and sugar confectionery experienced the highest rise with US$106.8 million (38.22 percent) increase.
  • The largest trading partner countries of non-oil and gas imports in January–May 2022 were China US$25.97 billion (32.71 percent), Japan US$6.89 billion (8.67 percent), and Thailand US$4.93 billion (6.21 percent). Imports of non-oil and gas from ASEAN and EU countries were US$14.00 billion (17.63 percent) and US$4.52 billion (5.69 percent), respectively.
  • Compared with the same period last year, the total of Indonesia imports for all broad economics categories in January–May 2022 experienced increases, which consisted of US$659.0 million (9.21 percent) of consumption goods imports, US$17,811.6 million (31.77 percent) of intermediate goods imports, and US$2,887.5 million (27.20 percent) of capital goods imports.
  • Indonesia’s balance of trade in May 2022 experienced a surplus of US$2.89 billion, which mainly affected by a surplus of non-oil and gas of US$4.75 billion. On the other hand, there was a deficit of US$1.86 billion in oil and gas.
