Abstract
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in February 2011 was 126.46 or inflated 0.13 percent from January 2011 at 126.29. In February 2011, the changes of each expenditure group as follows: the foodstuff decreased from 150.64 to 150.14 or deflated 0.33 percent; the prepared food, beverages, cigarette and tobacco increased from 133.24 to 133.86 or inflated 0.47 percent; the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel increased from 120.37 to 120.85 or inflated 0.40 percent; the clothing decreased from 126.95 to 126.85 or deflated 0.08 percent; the health increased from 116.41 to 117.21 or inflated 0.69 percent; the education, recreation and sport increased from 118.36 to 118.51 or inflated 0.13 percent, and the transportation, communication and financial services increased from 106.43 to 106.59 or inflated 0.15 percent.
The inflation in February 2011 was mainly caused by price increases of several commodities, i.e.: fresh fish, fermented soybean cake, orange, shallot, cooking oil, filter cigarette, brick, car, instant noodle, preserved fish, spinach, tofu, coconut, cooked rice & side dishes served together, clove-flavored cigarette, cigarette without clove flavoring, iron rods for reinforced concrete, rental house fee, wages of labor, city water fare, prescription drugs, and gasoline. Meanwhile, the prices of the following commodities were decreased, i.e.: red chili, rice, purebred chicken meat, tomato (vegetable), gold accessories, tomato (fruit), green chili, small chili, and passenger plane fare.
In February 2011, the core of CPI changed from 120.86 to 121.24 or inflated 0.31 percent (see Table 2). The administered price component changed from 119.65 to 120.03 or inflated 0.32 percent and the volatile component changed from 154.34 to 153.60 or deflated 0.48 percent.
The core inflation rate of calendar 2011 and year on year (February 2011 to February 2010) were 0.81 percent and 4.36 percent respectively. While inflation rate of the administered price component of calendar 2011 and year on year were 0.58 percent and 5.34 percent respectively. Furthermore, inflation rate of the volatile component of calendar 2011 and year on year were 1.93 percent and 16.51 percent.
