Abstract
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in January 2011 was 126.29 or inflated 0.89 percent from December 2010 at 125.17. In January 2011, the changes of each expenditure group as follows: the foodstuff increased from 147.39 to 150.64 or inflated 2.21 percent; the prepared food, beverages, cigarette and tobacco increased from 132.59 to 133.24 or inflated 0.49 percent; the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel increased from 119.79 to 120.37 or inflated 0.48 percent; the clothing increased from 126.76 to 126.95 or inflated 0.15 percent; the health increased from 115.86 to 116.41 or inflated 0.47 percent; the education, recreation and sport increased from 117.86 to 118.36 or inflated 0.42 percent, and the transportation, communication and financial services increased from 106.10 to 106.43 or inflated 0.31 percent.
The inflation in January 2011 was mainly caused by price increases of several commodities, i.e.: rice, small chili, fresh fish, red chili, shallot, rental house fee, cooking oil, potato, cooked rice and side dishes served together, filter cigarette, passenger plane fare, gasoline, preserved fish, cucumber, green chili, grape, brick, leasing house fee, housemaid cost, umbrella, medical specialist fare, recreation costs, and motorcycle. Meanwhile, the prices of the following commodities were decreased, i.e.: tomato (vegetable) and garlic.
In January 2011, the core of CPI changed from 120.27 to 120.86 or inflated 0.49 percent (see Table 2). The administered price component changed from 119.34 to 119.65 or inflated 0.26 percent and the volatile component changed from 150.69 to 154.34 or inflated 2.42 percent.
The core inflation rate of calendar 2011 and year on year (January 2011 to January 2010) were 0.49 % and 4.18 % respectively. While inflation rate of the administered price component of calendar 2011 and year on year were 0.26 % and 5.21 % respectively. Furthermore, inflation rate of the volatile component of calendar 2011 and year on year were 2.42 % and 18.25 %.
