Abstract
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in October 2010 was 123.29 or inflated 0.06 percent from September 2010 at 123.21. In October 2010, the changes of each expenditure group as follows: the foodstuff decreased from 142.46 to 141.25 or deflated 0.85 percent; the prepared food, beverages, cigarette and tobacco increased from 130.87 to 131.50 or inflated 0.48 percent; the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel increased from 118.81 to 119.24 or inflated 0.36 percent; the clothing increased from 122.18 to 124.29 or inflated 1.73 percent; the health increased from 115.30 to 115.58 or inflated 0.24 percent; the education, recreation and sport increased from 117.16 to 117.68 or inflated 0.44 percent, and the transportation, communication and financial services decreased from 106.44 to 105.83 or deflated 0.57 percent.
The inflation in October 2010 was mainly caused by price increases of several commodities, i.e.: gold accessories, shallot, rice, sugar, wages of labor, spinach, rental house fee, housemaid cost, waste disposal services, leasing house fee, security fee, mustard greens, filter cigarette, kangkung, recreation, clove-flavored cigarette, sweet bread, academy/university tuition fees and cooked rice & side dishes served together. Meanwhile, the prices of the following commodities were decreased, i.e.: purebred chicken meat, fresh fish, red chili, interurban transportation fare, passenger plane fare, small chili, beef, purebred chicken eggs, potato, train fare, carrot, coconut, free-range chicken meat and garlic.
In October 2010, the core of CPI changed from 119.03 to 119.46 or inflated 0.36 percent (see Table 2). The administered price component changed from 118.75 to 118.85 or inflated 0.08 percent and the volatile component changed from 144.87 to 143.46 or deflated 0.97 percent.
The core inflation rate of calendar 2010 and year on year (October 2010 to October 2009) were 3.58 percent and 4.19 percent respectively. While inflation rate of the administered price component of calendar 2010 and year on year were 4.96 percent and 5.79 percent respectively. Furthermore, inflation rate of the volatile component of calendar 2010 and year on year were 12.09 percent and 10.93 percent.
