The October 2006 CPI Was 143.65, Or Inflated 0.86%

The October 2006 Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 143.65, or inflated 0.86% from the previous month. All indices of expenditure groups increased, the foodstuff index increased from 134.77 to 137.70 or inflated of 2.17%, prepared food, beverages, cigarette and tobacco from 136.86 to 137.74 or inflated of 0.64%; housing, water, electric, gas and fuel from 146.44 to 146.82 or inflated of 0.26%; the clothing from 127.16 to 128.43 or inflated of 1.00%; health from 124.83 to 125.19 or inflated of 0.29%; education, recreation and sport from 147.41 to 147.56 or inflated of 0.10%; and transport, communication and financial services from 166.48 to 167.24 or inflated of 0.46%.

The October 2006 inflation was mainly driven by: purebred chicken meat; interurban transportation fare; purebred chicken eggs; red chili; fresh fish; lived chicken; beef; cooked noodle; potato; orange; banana; coconut; filter cigarette; leasing house fee; free-range chicken meat; gizzard and liver of chicken; powdered milk for children who age under five years old (excluding infants); mustard greens; tomato (vegetable); carrot; apple; papaya; palm sugar; emping mentah (raw gnetum gnemon chips); fried chicken; cooked rice and side dishes served together; clove-flavored cigarette; brick; kerosene; man s clothing; woman s clothing; and hospital care fare. The prices of the following commodities were decreased: rice; shallot; garlic; small chili; and gasoline. Inflation rate for 2006 and year- on- year (October 2006 on October 2005) were 4.96% and 6.29%, respectively.

The core of CPI in October 2006 changed from 133.57 to 134.53 or yielded core inflation 0.72% compared to the previous month. The volatile good component changed from 137.42 to 140.42 or inflated of 2.18%, and the administered good component from 178.12 to 178.38 or inflated of 0.15%. In October 2006, the monthly and year- on -year core inflations were 5.02 % and 6.86% respectively. The monthly and year on year inflation of the volatile and the administered price goods inflations were (10.08% and 10.81%) and (1.42%, 1.79%) for the same time comparison, respectively.
