Abstract

  • The April 2006 Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 139.64, or inflated 0.05% from the previous month. All indices of expenditure groups increased, except foodstuff which decreased from 132.37 to 131.24 or 0.85% deflation. The prepared food, beverages, cigarette and tobacco index changed from 134.44 to 135.02 or 0.43% inflation; housing, water, electric, gas and fuel increased from 143.79 to 144.40 or 0.42% inflation; clothing from 123.16 to 124.02 or 0.70% inflation; health from 122.22 to 122.93 or 0.58% inflation; education, recreation and sport 136.64 to 136.76 or inflated 0.09%; transport, communication and financial services from 165.77 to 165.89 or 0.07% inflation.
  • There were price increases of several goods/services such as: garlic; leasing house fee; rental house fee; gold accessories; purebred chicken egg; orange; potato; small chili; cooked noodle; cooked rice and side dishes served together; sugar; clove-flavored cigarette; filter cigarette; city water fare; hospital care fee; and rented pedicab fare. Whereas the prices of the following commodities decreased: rice; red chili; fresh fish; tomato (vegetable); purebred chicken meat; spinach; bean; string bean; mustard greens; and tomato (fruit). Inflation rate for 2006 and year- on- year (April 2006 on April 2005) were 2.03% and 15.40% respectively.
  • The core of CPI in April 2006 changed from 130.19 to 130.61 or yielded core inflation 0.32% compared to the previous month. The volatile good component changed from 134.81 to 133.58 or 0.91% deflation, and the administered good component from 176.73 to 177.00 or 0.15% inflation. In April 2006, the monthly and year- on -year core inflations were 1.96 % and 9.43% respectively. Whereas the volatile good inflation and the administered price inflations were (4.72% and 18.86%) and (0.63%, 30.80%) for the same time comparison, respectively.
