Village Potential Data Collection (Podes) Supports Local Development

December 16, 2024 | Other Activities

Statistics Indonesia (BPS) conducted the Village Potential Data Collection (Podes) in May 2024, covering all districts, sub-districts, and the lowest administrative levels, including villages. The results of this data collection were released to the public on December 11, 2024, at the event titled "Promoting Podes 2024 Results: Development Achievements and Enhancing Statistical Literacy”.

In his opening speech, Ateng Hartono, Deputy Chief Statistician for Social Statistics at BPS, highlighted that the Podes aligns with the Sixth Asta Cita, which emphasizes the importance of village-based development to promote economic equity and reduce poverty. One of the key strategies for achieving development is tackling poverty at its roots, and the Podes data serves as a vital resource for guiding infrastructure development at the village level.

BPS is also working to enhance the quality of village data through the "Village Fond of Statistics" program. This initiative is central to supporting the new approach to village development, which includes fostering new economic opportunities, utilizing local knowledge, optimizing resources, boosting productivity, and ultimately raising incomes for local communities.

Tri Dewi Virgiyanti, Deputy Minister for Regional Development at the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, praised the Podes data and emphasized its importance for planning and achieving Indonesia’s 2045 Golden Vision, particularly for achieving economic indicator 8, which focuses on urban and rural areas as centers of economic growth.

During the event, BPS not only presented the latest Podes data but also discussed its contribution to the Village Fond of Statistics program and outputs like the Village Index. The Podes initiative highlights the crucial role of villages in driving Indonesia’s development.
