Indonesia Accelerates Path to OECD Membership with National Coordination Team

November 12, 2024 | Other Activities

As part of its roadmap to realize the Vision for a Golden Indonesia by 2045, the Indonesian government is amplifying its international role by pursuing membership in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). To spearhead this endeavor, the government has formed the OECD National Team, chaired by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, established under Presidential Decree No. 17 of 2024. This team, comprising representatives from 64 governmental and non-governmental institutions, will engage with 26 OECD Committees and work towards aligning with 243 OECD instruments and standards. Statistics Indonesia (BPS) has taken the lead in the country’s engagement with the Committee on Statistics and Statistical Policy.

Currently, the OECD National Team is preparing an Initial Memorandum—an extensive self-assessment of Indonesia’s regulatory frameworks measured against OECD standards. This document will serve as a benchmark throughout the accession process.

In a move to ensure inclusivity and transparency throughout the process, the government launched the OECD Accession Portal and INA Accession Information Hub at the National Coordination Meeting and Portal Launch Event, hosted by the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs on October 3. BPS’ Acting Chief Statistician Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti joined the event, where Minister Airlangga emphasized that the portals are pivotal steps to drive reforms in economic policy, digital transformation, and governance—demonstrating Indonesia’s commitment to accelerated modernization across sectors.
