February 28, 2024 | Other Activities

BPS attended the 27th Meeting of the ASEAN Community Statistical System (ACSS) Sub Committee on Planning and Coordination (SCPC), held on 28-29 February 2024 in Vang Vieng, Laos. At the meeting, the Indonesian delegation was represented by Dwi Retno Wilujeng Wahyu Utami, Director of Statistical Dissemination, and Tias Tanjung Wilis, Senior Public Relations Officer at the Bureau of Public Relations and Legal Affairs.

This meeting, attended by representatives from ten ASEAN Member States, the ASEAN Secretariat, and Timor Leste, is an important platform for uniting ASEAN member countries in increasing statistical cooperation throughout the region. In opening this event, Phetsamone Sone, Deputy Head of the Lao PDR Bureau of Statistics and Chair of ACSS SCPC emphasized the important role of statistical cooperation in effectively overcoming various development challenges. “By enhancing collaboration among ASEAN Member States in data collection, analysis, and dissemination, we empower policymakers with the insights needed to formulate evidence-based strategies for sustainable development.", she said. Furthermore, Phetsamone also appreciated the BPS-Statistics Indonesia for its dedication and leadership in advancing statistical development in the ASEAN Region during Indonesia’s chairmanship in 2023.

Various agendas were discussed at this meeting, including timelines and targets for completing the 2024 ACSS annual priorities, ACSS post-2025 plan, implementation of the Application Programming Interface (API) Pilot Project for ASEAN Member States data submission, and various other ACSS activities. All of these agendas are very important considering that currently ASEAN is approaching the end of the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and is preparing to welcome the Vision of 2045. For this reason, all statistical offices in the ASEAN region must strengthen coordination and cooperation in a broader, stronger and more intensive manner.

The ACSS-SCPC meeting serves as an important platform for uniting ASEAN Member States to enhance statistical cooperation across the region.
