DPR RDP: BPS Reports 2019 Performance

Jakarta - BPS Head Kecuk Suhariyanto accompanied by a number of echelons 1 and 2 fulfilled the invitation of the House of Representatives Commission XI to hold a Hearing Meeting (RDP) at Nusantara I Building, DPR RI Complex (9/12). The agenda of the meeting this time was the delivery of 2019 performance and the BPS 2020 work plan. The meeting was chaired by the Chairperson of the House of Representatives Commission XI, Dito Ganindito who conveyed the important role of BPS in planning and development. Commission XI also hopes that at this RDP, BPS can report on performance achievements and work plans the following year.

Furthermore Kecuk opened the presentation with the introduction of BPS to the board members. In addition, he also explained various statistical data generated by BPS. Some of them are related to economic growth, inflation, the Indonesian Democracy Index (IDI), and the Human Development Index (HDI).

Many responses and questions from members of the House of Representatives Commission XI, one from Misbakhun who questioned how the methodology in calculating IDI. "This figure is very crucial in the sustainability of democracy in Indonesia, so a clear methodology and better reference for implementation are needed so that the resulting figures can be trusted," Misbakhun continued.

In addition, there are some serious problems that have been addressed by some members of the council, namely regarding poverty. Why is it important, because this problem is included in priority 1 in the RKP 2020. Mapping poverty is not enough just to count how many people are poor but must also understand the extent of the depth and severity of poverty that occurs in Indonesia.

"Poverty alleviation is not just numbers but there must be approaches that are more than just numbers, more than just statistics, there must be a participatory approach. This needs hard work from all of us, "said Anis, one of the board members present.
