Abstract

The Indonesia’s Vital Statistics Report 2019-2023 outlines the progress of vital event registration in Indonesia, including births and deaths, over the 2019-2023 period at both national and provincial levels. This report was developed as part of an effort to strengthen the administration of civil registration and enhance vital statistics based on Presidential Regulation No. 62 of 2019. The writing of this report was a collaborative effort between BPS-Statistics Indonesia, the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA), the Ministry of Health (MOH), and the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas). The primary data source for this report is the population administration data from MOHA, supplemented by census/survey data from BPS-Statistics Indonesia and data from the MOH. At the national level, the registration of vital events faces various challenges and delays, meaning the records do not yet fully reflect actual trends in births and deaths on an annual basis. However, at the provincial level, significant progress has been made in several regions.
