Abstract

Early childhood is a golden period for child development, considering that at this stage there will be very rapid development in children. Early childhood development is itself a strategic indicator in shaping human capital to achieve sustainable development. Based on this, the availability of data and information related to early childhood development, both at the national and regional levels, is necessary. For this reason, BPS is working with UNICEF to compile an analysis related to early childhood development which refers to 36-59 months of early childhood development indicator data based on the integration of 2018 Riskesdas and 2018 Susenas data, and is linked with other relevant indicators. In this publication, the development achievements of children aged 36-59 months are measured in four dimensions, namely: dimensions of numeracy literacy, dimensions of physical abilities, dimensions of social emotional abilities, and dimensions of learning abilities. The combination of these four dimensions is considered to reflect the achievement of children's development into an indicator, namely the Early Childhood Development Index (ECDI). This indicator can also be juxtaposed at the global level in order to fulfill the SDG indicator 4.2.1. Furthermore, this publication is expected to become a reference in providing recommendations regarding policies and development strategies related to early childhood development.
