Abstract

  • Indonesia’s Gender Inequality Index for 2022 was 0.459, a decrease of 0.006 points from the previous year. Gender inequality has decreased in most of Indonesia’s provinces.
  • The Gender Inequality Index (GII) in 2022 was 0.459, down 0.006 points from 0.465 in 2021.
  • Improvements in the reproductive health and empowerment dimensions were the main reasons for the decline in gender inequality.
  • The percentage of women who gave a live birth not in the health facility decreased from 15.4 percent in 2021 to 14.0 percent in 2022, improving the reproductive health dimension.
  • The progress in the empowerment dimension was influenced the percentage of women (25 years of age or older) who had a high school education or higher increased faster than men. The percentage of women with a high school education or higher increased from 34.87 percent in 2021 to 36.95 percent in 2022, while the percentage of men with high education or higher increased from 41.30 percent to 42.06 percent in 2022.
