Abstract

  • The inflation rate in March 2022 was 0.66 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 108.95. Of the 90 CPI cities surveyed, 88 cities had inflation and deflation happened in two cities. Merauke had the highest inflation of 1.86 percent with a CPI of 109.13, while Kupang had the lowest inflation of 0.09 percent with a CPI of 107.27. On the other hand, Tual registered the highest deflation of 0.27 percent with a CPI of 109.02, and Kendari had the lowest deflation of 0.07 percent with a CPI of 108.63.
  • Inflation occurred as the prices went up as indicated by the increase in most of the expenditure groups indices, namely: Food, Beverages, and Tobacco Group of 1.47 percent; Clothing and Footwear Group of 0.17 percent; Housing, Water, Electricity, and Household Fuel Group of 0.41 percent; Furnishings, Household Equipment, and Routine Household Maintenance Group of 0.50 percent; Health Group of 0.28 percent; Transport Group at 0.42 percent; Recreation, Sport, and Culture Group at 0.17 percent; Education Group at 0.01 percent; Food and Beverage Serving Services/Restaurant Group at 0.32 percent; and Personal Care and Other Services Group at 1.14 percent. On the other hand, Information, Communication, and Financial Services Group was unchanged.
  • The year-to-date inflation rate (March 2022 compared to December 2021) was 1.20 percent, and the year-on-year inflation (March 2022 compared to March 2021) was 2.64 percent.
  • The Core Component increased by 0.30 percent in March 2022. The year-to-date inflation rate of the Core Component (March 2022 compared to December 2021)was 1.03 percent. The year-on-year inflation of the Core Component (March 2022 compared to March 2021) was 2.37 percent.
