Abstract

  • In September 2019, the level of inequality in expenditure by the Indonesian population measured by the Gini Ratio was 0.380. This figure decreased by 0.002 points when compared to the March 2019 Gini Ratio of 0.382 and decreased by 0.004 points compared to the September 2018 Gini Ratio of 0.384.
  • The Gini Ratio in urban areas in September 2019 was recorded at 0.391, down compared to the March 2019 Gini Ratio of 0.392 and unchanged compared to the September 2018 Gini Ratio of 0.391.
  • The Gini Ratio in rural areas in September 2019 was recorded at 0.315, down compared to the March 2019 Gini Ratio of 0.317 and compared to the September 2018 Gini Ratio of 0.319.
  • Based on the World Bank's inequality measure, the distribution of expenditure in the lowest 40 percent group is 17.71 percent. This means that population expenditure in September 2019 is in the category of low inequality. If broken down by region, in urban areas the figure is 16.90 percent, which means it is classified as a category of moderate inequality. While for rural areas, the figure was 20.66 percent, which means it was classified as low inequality.
