Abstract
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in October 2011 was 128.74 or deflated 0.12 percent from September 2011 at 128.89. In October 2011, the changes of each expenditure group as follows: the foodstuff decreased from 149.97 to 149.45 or deflated 0.35 percent; the prepared food, beverages, cigarette and tobacco increased from 137.25 to 137.61 or inflated 0.26 percent; the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel increased from 123.08 to 123.33 or inflated 0.20 percent; the clothing decreased from 135.96 to 134.25 or deflated 1.26 percent; the health increased from 120.07 to 120.38 or inflated 0.26 percent; the education, recreation and sport increased from 123.43 to 123.80 or inflated 0.30 percent, and the transportation, communication and financial services decreased from 108.29 to 107.85 or deflated 0.41 percent.
The deflation in October 2011 was mainly caused by price decreases of several commodities, i.e.: gold accessories, fresh fish, purebred chicken eggs, passenger plane fare, purebred chicken meat, interurban transportation fare, potato, red onion, cooking oil, beef, preserved fish, garlic, coconut, and railway tariffs. Meanwhile, the prices of the following commodities were increased, i.e.: rice, red chili, spinach, small chili, filter cigarette, orange, clove-flavored cigarette, brick, leasing house fee, rental house fee, academy/university tuition, and gasoline.
In October 2011, the core of CPI changed from 124.90 to 124.75 or deflated 0.12 percent (see Table 2). The administered price component changed from 122.11 to 122.31 or inflated 0.16 percent and the volatile component changed from 152.31 to 151.75 or deflated 0.37 percent.
The core inflation rate of calendar 2011 and year on year (October 2011 to October 2010) were 3.72 percent and 4.43 percent respectively. While inflation rate of the administered price component of calendar 2011 and year on year were 2.49 percent and 2.91 percent respectively. Furthermore, inflation rate of the volatile component of calendar 2011 and year on year were 0.70 percent and 5.78 percent.
