Abstract
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in September 2011 was 128.89 or inflated 0.27 percent from August 2011 at 128.54. In September 2011, the changes of each expenditure group as follows: the foodstuff decreased from 150.11 to 149.97 or deflated 0.09 percent; the prepared food, beverages, cigarette and tobacco increased from 136.60 to 137.25 or inflated 0.48 percent; the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel increased from 122.76 to 123.08 or inflated 0.26 percent; the clothing increased from 134.66 to 135.96 or inflated 0.97 percent; the health increased from 119.81 to 120.07 or inflated 0.22 percent; the education, recreation and sport increased from 122.77 to 123.43 or inflated 0.54 percent, and the transportation, communication and financial services increased from 108.10 to 108.29 or inflated 0.18 percent.
The inflation in September 2011 was mainly caused by price increases of several commodities, i.e.: rice, red chili, gold accessories, filter cigarette, passenger plane fare, rental house fee, academy/university tuition fees, string bean, cucumber, green chili, mustard greens, fermented soybean cake, cooking oil, cooked noodle, clove-flavored cigarette, leasing house fee, cement, city water fare, housemaid cost, and secondary school education fees (SLTA). Meanwhile, the prices of the following commodities were decreased, i.e.: purebred chicken meat, purebred chicken eggs, fresh fish, red onion, garlic, spinach, tomato (vegetable), and cellular phone.
In September 2011, the core of CPI changed from 124.42 to 124.90 or inflated 0.39 percent (see Table 2). The administered price component changed from 121.72 to 122.11 or inflated 0.32 percent and the volatile component changed from 152.62 to 152.31 or deflated 0.20 percent.
The core inflation rate of calendar 2011 and year on year (September 2011 to September 2010) were 3.85 percent and 4.93 percent respectively. While inflation rate of the administered price component of calendar 2011 and year on year were 2.32 percent and 2.83 percent respectively. Furthermore, inflation rate of the volatile component of calendar 2011 and year on year were 1.08 percent and 5.14 percent.
