Abstract
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in August 2011 was 128.54 or inflated 0.93 percent from July 2011 at 127.35. In August 2011, the changes of each expenditure group as follows: the foodstuff increased from 148.52 to 150.11 or inflated 1.07 percent; the prepared food, beverages, cigarette and tobacco increased from 135.98 to 136.60 or inflated 0.46 percent; the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel increased from 122.36 to 122.76 or inflated 0.33 percent; the clothing increased from 130.65 to 134.66 or inflated 3.07 percent; the health increased from 119.50 to 119.81 or inflated 0.26 percent; the education, recreation and sport increased from 120.20 to 122.77 or inflated 2.14 percent, and the transportation, communication and financial services increased from 107.24 to 108.10 or inflated 0.80 percent.
The inflation in August 2011 was mainly caused by price increases of several commodities, i.e.: gold accessories, fresh fish, rice, passenger plane fare, secondary school education fees (SLTA), red chili, beef, elementary school education fees, interurban transportation fare, purebred chicken meat, string bean, filter cigarette, rental house fee, secondary school education fees (SLTP), lived free-range chicken, spinach, bean, kangkung, potato, cucumber, carrot, sweet corn, papaya, banana, coconut, cooked rice & side dishes served together, sugar, clove-flavored cigarette, leasing house fee, wages of labor, cement, household fuel, jeans trousers, kindergarten education fees, academy/university tuition, and railways tariffs. Meanwhile, the prices of the following commodities were decreased, i.e.: red onion, garlic, purebred chicken eggs, tomato (vegetable), tomato (fruit), and small chili.
In August 2011, the core of CPI changed from 123.08 to 124.42 or inflated 1.09 percent (see Table 2). The administered price component changed from 121.37 to 121.72 or inflated 0.29 percent and the volatile component changed from 151.11 to 152.62 or inflated 1.00 percent.
The core inflation rate of calendar 2011 and year on year (August 2011 to August 2010) were 3.45 percent and 5.15 percent respectively. While inflation rate of the administered price component of calendar 2011 and year on year were 1.99 percent and 2.69 percent respectively. Furthermore, inflation rate of the volatile component of calendar 2011 and year on year were 1.28 percent and 5.64 percent.
