Abstract

  • The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in February was 148.32, while the January CPI was 147.41 or inflated 0.62 %. In February, all of indices of expenditure groups increased. The foodstuff index increased from 146.75 to 147.99 or inflated 0.84 %; prepared food, beverages, cigarette and tobacco from 141.15 to 142.07 or inflated 0.65 %; housing, water, electric, gas and fuel from 149.40 to 150.60 or inflated 0.80 %; clothing from 129.18 to 129.90 or inflated 0.56 %; health from 127.71 to 128.53 or inflated 0.64 %; education, recreation and sport from 147.85 to 148.19 or inflated 0.23 %; and the transport, communication and financial services from 167.22 to 167.27 or inflated 0.03 %.
  • The inflation of February 2007 was mainly pushed by: rice; city water fare; leasing house fee; cooking oil; tomato (vegetables); cooked rice and side dishes served together; filter cigarette; rental house fee; housemaid cost; gold accessories; kangkung (kind of leafy vegetable); cucumber; green jackfruit; tofu; tempe (soybean fermented cake); tomato (fruits); sugar; ketupat/lontong sayur; soto (special soup); powder coffee; clove-flavored cigarette; wages of labor; bath soap; and academic/university education fees. Meanwhile, the prices of the following commodities were decreased: purebred chicken meat; red chili; small chili; shallot; potato; carrot; purebred chicken egg; coconut; fresh fish; orange; string bean; grape; corn; and gasoline. The inflation rate for January to February 2007 and year-on-year (February 2007 on February 2006) were 1.67 % and 6.30 % respectively.
  • In February 2007, the core of CPI changed from 136.82 to 137.59 or inflated 0.56 %. The volatile good component changed from 151.05 to 152.61 or inflated 1.03 %, and the administered good component changed from 179.78 to 180.73 or inflated 0.53 %. The core inflation rate for January to February 2007 and year-on-year (February 2007 on February 2006) were 1.30 % and 5.98 % respectively. While the volatile inflation rate for January to February 2007 and year-on-year (February 2007 on February 2006) were 3.79 % and 11.95 % respectively. Furthermore the administered price inflation rate for January to February 2007 and year-on-year (February 2007 on February 2006) were 0.89 % and 2.60 % respectively.
