Abstract

"
  • March 2003, was marked with minus 0.23 per cent of deflation. Based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) calculation in 43 cities, deflation was experienced in 32 cities, while inflation happened in 13 cities. The biggest deflation was in Sibolga (-2.42 per cent), whilst the smallest deflation was in Yogyakarta (-0.04 per cent). Meanwhile, the higgest inflation was experienced in Manado (1.92 per cent) and the lowest inflation happened in Ternate (0.07 per cent).
  • The deflation was contributed by the decrease in the prices of some goods and services groups as follows: unprepared food (2.26 per cent), clothing (0.05 per cent) and group of education, recreation and sports (0.13 per cent). Meanwile, some other groups experienced an increase as follows: prepared food, beverages, and tobacco products (0.40 per cent), housing (1.07 per cent), health (0.84 per cent), and transportation & communication (0.05 per cent).
  • The inflation rate by calendar year (January-March) 2003 reached to 0.77 per cent, while year on year inflation (March 2003 over March 2002) was 7.12 per cent. More details of information could be seen in the tables below.
