Jakarta – BPS-Statistics Indonesia, in collaboration with key ministries, is taking steps to position the creative economy as Indonesia’s next growth engine. Acting Chief Statistician Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti joined a high-level meeting on Creative Economy GDP alongside National Development Planning Minister Rachmat Pambudy and Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya on Monday (6/11) at the Bappenas office. The meeting aimed to align efforts toward realizing President Joko Widodo’s vision of making the creative economy a driving force behind Indonesia’s sustainable growth. “Indonesia’s cultural richness and creative talent are invaluable assets,” Minister Riefky remarked. “These form the foundation for an inclusive, competitive, and sustainable creative economy, aligned with the Asta Cita vision for Indonesia Emas 2045.” He underscored the need for policies rooted in accurate data. Until 2016, statistics from BPS’s Special Survey on the Creative Economy were used as a reference. Since 2020, however, data has been derived from processed reports. Amalia highlighted BPS’s ongoing efforts to improve Creative Economy GDP metrics, announcing that the 2026 Economic Census would offer a significant upgrade. “Unlike previous sample-based surveys, the census will collect population-wide data, enabling the development of a robust creative economy database and precise measurement of strategic indicators,” she explained. Riefky echoed this sentiment, pledging full support from the Ministry of Creative Economy. “We are committed to being a strategic partner for the 2026 Economic Census,” he said.
With strengthened collaboration and reliable data, Indonesia’s creative economy is well on track to become a vital engine of inclusive and sustainable growth.
